Natural Wonders And Attractions Of Lanzarote

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Lanzarote has earned a reputation as a package holiday destination over the years but increasingly more and more independent travellers are discovering the island.  Drawn by wonderful weather, more affordable flights, accommodation and scenery that really is out of this world.  There are lots of natural wonders to explore here.  Most of which were created by large scale volcanic activity which hit the island in the early 18th century.

Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the Canary Islands and has been a popular holiday destination since the 1970´s.  It’s still going strong today too – welcoming millions of foreign tourists every year.  And whist many are here to enjoy the glorious sunshine on the beach or by the pool most still find plenty of time to explore too.  The island however boasts enough stunning sights to lure them away from  their Lanzarote holiday apartments for a day or two to see what the island has to offer.

As well as a reliable tourist industry and great weather Lanzarote also offers holidaymakers plenty of attractions and activities.  Factors which have helped to maintain the island’s ongoing popularity.  These include an array of natural wonders, such as the verdant Valley of 1000 Palms in the north of the island.  And the number one tourist attraction of the Timanfaya Volcano Park – where visitors can gaze in awe at over 300 now dormant peaks.  There are also close to 100 beaches to explore along with some very pretty little villages such as Haria and Yaiza.

With so much to do it can be hard to choose what to do or where to go, but many peoples lists include:

Rancho Texas; As the name suggests the park is westerned themed with tepees and wagons the kids will enjoy going in and climbing over. There are a number of shows through out the day including tame parrots, falconry and perhaps the most frightening of all crocodile wrestling. The host does pick out the smallest of the bunch so it is not too much of a challenge compared to the antics of crocodile wrestlers in Florida but the crowd enjoys the show which is the main thing. or perhaps Jameos Del Agua. The term Jameos in the local dialect describes the formation of the geology and literally means “cave where the roof has fallen in”. Manrique, an artistic and architectural visionary was highly skilled in blending his version of natural art with nature and Jameos Del Agua was a stunning example of his early visions and became a foundation of some of his later works.

If these are not to your taste you could also try The Cesar Manrique Foundation – Given his contribution to the shaping of the very fabric of Lanzarote and its view on tourism development it is only fitting that Cesar Manrique should have his own foundation and legacy. Even more fitting is the fact that it is built around one his best examples of his work which was of course his former home. As you tour round his former home lovingly created from the natural occurrence of volcanic lava bubbles you can truly sense the vision that drove his dedication to natural architecture and the maintenance of the originality of the Lanzarote landscape.

Whilst In England, Don’t Miss Out On Visiting Brighton

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Just fifty miles south of London, England is the coastal city of Brighton – a laid back and unpretentious city that is home to unique restaurants and lively nightclubs. If fortunate enough to visit this popular vacation spot, be sure to stop by the following attractions:

The Royal Pavilion – This regal building sits in the town’s center and is often known as the “Brighton Pavilion’ or locally referred to as “The Pavilion”. Though it was constructed as a farmhouse, Prince Regent (later known as King George IV) renovated the structure to be used as a seaside vacation home. Though the tour costs a small fee, it is definitely worth the charge. The inside is highly decorated and furnished with exquisite original pieces, while the outside is an impressive show of grandeur. At the perimeter of the Pavilion garden sits the Brighton Museum – a free attraction that is home to an array of historical pieces from the area, in addition to artwork from the community.

The Palace Pier – Though a few piers had been built in Brighton, this 1899 Pier is the only one that remains. It was originally built to allow easy access for pleasure craft and to house amusement rides. Today, it is home to an array of tourist shops, nightclubs, restaurants, arcades, and even a modest fair. Though some view it as flashy and garish, it is well worth the time to explore the Palace Pier. Considering the cost is free and the promenade provides a view of the seashore, taking a stroll along the pier is an attraction not to pass up.

The Lanes – Another great place to visit while in Brighton is the Lanes. It is by far the best place to see when you are there. There are a ton of independently owned businesses along the Lanes and you can shop till you drop. There are clothing stores, jewelry shops and antiquities dealers. You could actually spend your entire trip in the Lanes and never get to see everything because there are so many streets, shops and hidden treasures to be found. The Lanes is the oldest area in Brighton so it would be a good idea to visit their chamber of commerce and visitor information center so you can learn about the area first.

The Beach – And last but not least, when you are in Brighton, you have to visit the beach! Brighton sits along the south coast of England and is infamous for not having sandy, pristine beaches. What it is known for is its pebbled beaches and its many bars and nightclubs that dot the beach line. It is a totally different atmosphere and a lot of fun. The beach is also a great place to catch a free movie, a free street performance or live music. It is a fun place to be and an even greater place to visit! You definitely have to make it a priority when you visit Brighton!
